We are really excited to be taking part in the Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle’s Edible Garden Tour this year! This event will take place July 10th from 11am-4pm and features edible gardens throughout White Center and West Seattle. There will be 13 locations on the tour that you can read about here (we are ‘Birnamwood West’).
This means we will be sprucing up the drip irrigation, weeding, mulching, labeling, cleaning the coop and babying the seedlings. We’ll be showing off our raised beds, trellising, drip irrigation, Tater Towers™ and, of course, a plethora of edibles! Plus the chickens: Esmerelda, Lady Guitar, Jesse, Thirsty Boots, Calypso and ‘the Annies’ and their cool coop!
Tickets & maps will be available on the day off at the St. James Community Teaching Garden: 9421 18th Ave SW, 98106 (and through Brown Paper Tickets.) The teaching garden is getting set up and we plan to showcase a variety of methods of growing edibles in an urban setting.
It is on the same day as Seattle Tilth’s Chicken Coop Tour which is also a super fun event. Maybe it is just me, but I love looking at other folk’s gardens. The coop tour usually gives you both: urban chickens and cool gardens! It is really fascinating to see what others are doing.
However, Community Harvest & Tilth have joined up for the day and will give you a map that has all the West Seattle stops for BOTH tours! How cool is that!? You don’t have to miss a thing!
So, if you want to see a lot of both edible gardens and chickens but don’t want to traipse all over town this is a perfect opportunity! Maybe you even want to bike? Come to West Seattle and get it all.
Come on by & introduce yourself. I’d love to see/meet you! You’ll also have a chance to meet some key characters from Grow & Resist, including the Ladyfriend & Babylady and Briggs (of oh briggsy fame with Double S).
